Spike Lee pays Florida couple over George Zimmerman Twitter mishap

After a bit of a delay, Spike Lee decided to do the right thing.

The director agreed to pay a Florida couple after sending out an errant Twitter that he believed contained the address of George Zimmerman, the man who shot an killed unarmed teenager Treyvon Martin. It turns out the address was the home of elderly couple Elaine and David McClain.

The McClain's lawyer Matt Morgan tells the AP, "At this point in time, we have come to an agreement with Spike Lee and his attorneys, and at this point, the matter is fully resolved. Spike has agreed to compensate the McClains for their loss and for the disruption into their lives. He's taken full responsibility."

Elaine McClain tells the AP that Lee also called them to apologize. She says, "He was really kind. And when he called us, you could just tell he really felt bad about it. And it was just a slip, and I just know that he really, really has been concerned."

Lee had previously said he's sorry on Twitter after sending the address out to his 250,000+ saying, "I Deeply Apologize To The McClain Family For Retweeting Their Address. It Was A Mistake. Please Leave The McClain's In Peace." But clearly that wasn't enough to compensate for what was most certainly a major inconvenience and intrusion in their lives.
