The Mothers: Susie, Milo and Bibi

Name: Susie?

Children: Milo (nearly 5) and Isobel, also known as Bibi, 18 months.

Location:

Chorlton, Manchester

Expectations of Motherhood:

?With my eldest, Milo, I had none. I think because of that, I actually found becoming a mother the most incredible and empowering experience. Here was something I could do and it felt that I could do it "right"; I trusted my instincts. Second time round, I did have an expectation. I expected it to be hard, sure, but I thought I'd be able to do it all again, that having my daughter would just add to my love and my abilities as a mother.

Reality of Motherhood:

?Having Bibi has been one of the hardest things I've ever done. I say that as a mother who is totally and utterly devoted to her daughter, who loves the bones of her, who can't be away from her without experiencing a phyiscal pull. I miss my kids when they are not physically here with me. But oh, Bibi was a hard baby. She didn't sleep, day or night, for the first ten months. She was so angry and cross; I'd regularly be in tears at 9am, thinking, how the hell am I going to manage the rest of the day on my own with her? I was so tired. I missed hanging out with just me and Milo. And the most shocking thing of all: I didn't think it would be like this. I expected to fall in love with her in the same way I had with Milo; but that rush of immediate first love was a long time coming. Don't get me wrong, I would have wrestled a tiger (and quite possibly won) for her, but she was hard to love.

I remember crying on the tram, in front of all these people, when she just wouldn't stop crying, and she'd been crying for something like 48 hours straight. I'd tried to pick her up to comfort her but she just fought me off - that was what was so hard. Not that she cried, but that she was so angry with it. She didn't want comfort. Poor Milo was there on the tram, one of my poor neighbours too (who to her credit, did offer to help). I didn't want help, though, because I knew that whatever break I had, whether it was 5 minutes or 5 hours, I'd have to go back to having her scream at me, unrelentingly, day and night.

The turning point came that day; I realised I couldn't go on. My lovely husband stepped in and took over the nights and, eventually, after a further few months, Bibi started sleeping. That, coupled with her also being able to walk and to be able to communicate, was the turning point. I think Bibi just didn't like being a baby. By 12 months she was a changed girl. She has become the most wonderful, good-natured, hilarious, feisty and slightly bonkers toddler. I am in awe of her, I am in love with her. And finally I have bonded with her.

So when she was born I lost all the confidence I had in being a good mother. I don't think I was, for a long time. It's something I actually feel very ashamed about. I "should" have been better. And part of the reason for doing this project is to out myself, to say, you know what, I failed, to begin with. But I found a way back. And to say sorry to my darling girl - because, you know what, for all she drove me half way to insanity, I wouldn't have had it any other way. I would do it all again, just to have her in my life. Only I'd hope I'd be able to be slightly less crap if I did it again.

So - Bibi, if you ever read this: I love you. You are wonderful. And if anyone ever makes you feel otherwise (including me), you have my full permission to have words with them. And not necessarily nice words, either.

Taking your children home for the first time:?I don't want to be a Chorlton cliche, but I had Bibi at home. It was less about being an 'earth mother' (I'm really not) but more about practicalities. Milo was asleep, I was 5 mins from hospital if anything went wrong (and quite possibly had better care than I would in hospital; I had 2 Grade 7 midwives with me throughout), and I just wanted to be left alone to get on with it. So afterwards, my midwife ran me a bath, made my bed, and I got in and snuggled up with my new girl. Five minutes later, Milo woke up and, still in his PJs, met his baby sister. That bit - giving him the best present ever - that made it all worth it. Milo and Bibi are very close; they adore each other, and I hope that their relationship started that morning when he climbed into bed: me, Simon, Milo and Bibi, all together.

The best/worst advice:?I made a point early on not to listen to anything other than medical advice. Babies are people; people are unique. So why would you try and apply a 'one size fits all' approach to your own child?

The hardest part of being a mother:?The lack of time.

The best parts of being a mother:?Having two people in my life who constantly amaze me, who make me laugh, who remind me what fun means, who teach me how to be a better, less selfish person. Honestly, my kids rock: hanging out with them is a privilege.

Hopes for your family:?That Milo and Bibi will be happy and healthy, meet people in their lives who make them feel good about themselves, and that they both grow up knowing, at the core of them, that they are OK just as they are. They don't have to 'be' anything to be good enough; they just have to be.

What advice would you offer to new and expectant mums:?Be kind to yourself. And take help when it is offered, and ask for it if it isn't.

Digitimes says ASUS says Digitimes doesn't know what the hell it's talking about

Nexus 7

Because if you can't trust the source of yesterday's anonymously sourced $99 Nexus rumor to accurately report the denial of a $99 Nexus 7, who can you trust in this crazy world?

Never mind that the actual quote Digitimes has today doesn't actually refute anything. Here 'tis:

With Nexus 7's strong sales, rumor have circulated that Google is looking to push forward and will cooperate with Asustek to release a US$99 entry-level model and a US$199 ultra-thin upgraded model to counter Amazon and Apple's new tablet devices.

So, yeah. There's that. Ain't nothing official till it's official, folks.

Portugal: File-Sharing for Personal, Non-Commercial Use is Legal ...

Last year the movie industry anti-piracy group ACAPOR delivered boxes full of IP-addresses that they alleged had engaged in illegal file-sharing to the Attorney General?s Office of Portugal. The group wanted the AG's office to act against these 2,000 alleged pirates, saying that they were doing anything they could to "alert the government to the very serious situation in the entertainment industry." Fast-forward to the present day and the AG has a decision that the group is not too pleased with..

Portugal's Department of Investigation and Penal Action (DIAP) looked into all of the complaints the group submitted and came to the conclusion that the 2,000 IP-addresses submitted will not be brought to court. What's worse is that the prosecutor overseeing the investigation comes to the conclusion that file-sharing for personal use is not against the law and the IP addresses do not represent "people."

"From a legal point of view, while taking into account that users are both uploaders and downloaders in these file-sharing networks, we see this conduct as lawful, even when it?s considered that the users continue to share once the download is finished," an order from the DIAP reads.

The prosecutor goes on to say that the right to education, culture, and freedom of expression on the Internet should not be restricted in cases where copyright infringements are non-commercial.

As for the IP addresses, the ruling comes to the conclusion that the person connected to the IP address "is not necessarily the user at the moment the infringement takes place, or the user that makes available the copyrighted work, but rather the individual who has the service registered in his name, independent of whether this person using it or not."

ACAPOR boss Nuno Pereira vocalized his disappointment with the ruling and accused the prosecutor of being lazy:

"Personally I think the prosecutors just found a way to adapt the law to their interest ? and their interest is not having to send 2,000 letters, hear 2,000 people and investigate 2,000 computers," Pereira said.

Giant crocodiles ripped prey to death

A crocodile more than 22 feet long that ripped prey to death and another huge croc that sucked prey to its doom were at the top of the European marine food chain 150 million years ago, a new study finds.

The enormous prehistoric crocodiles, Plesiosuchus and Dakosaurus, were such ravenous carnivores that their methods have been compared to today's killer whales and a famous, iconic, meat-loving dinosaur.

"The skulls of these two sea croc species have some similarities to T. rex," lead author Mark Young of the University of Edinburgh told Discovery News. "The largest known skull of Plesiosuchus manselii was approximately four feet, three inches long, putting it in the size range of adult T. rex skulls."

NEWS: Largest Known Croc Likely Ate Early Humans

For the study, published in PLoS ONE, Young and his colleagues analyzed fossils for the two crocodiles, which were unearthed in sites from England to Germany. In their U.K. home, the crocs once dwelled in the shallow seas that covered England. At the same time, Archaeopteryx was flying over Europe and giant dinosaurs, such as Diplodocus and Allosaurus, were stomping around North America.

The researchers determined that Plesiosuchus was the largest known species of metriorhynchid, meaning sea crocodile.

"It was bigger than living salt water crocodiles and great white sharks," Young said.

Its teeth functioned like those of today's killer whales, based on shape and wear. This ripper crocodile probably bit into both large and small prey, which it would grab, kill and gulp.

Perhaps even more unusual was the sucker croc, Dakosaurus. The skull and jaw characteristics of this nearly 15-foot-long ancient crocodile suggest that it was a suction feeder, making it the first known suction-feeding crocodilian.

NEWS: Crocodile Turns Bright Orange

This way of eating "involves being able to rapidly open the mouth wide, and generating negative pressure," Young said. "This sucks a prey item into the mouth."

"We think that Plesiosuchus specialized in eating other marine reptiles, and Dakosaurus was a generalist," co-author Lorna Steel of the Natural History Museum in London said, "probably eating fish and whatever else it could get hold of, perhaps including the small metriorhynchid Geosaurus." The latter looked like a barracuda.

It's suspected that modern killer whales can also suck in victims. Young explained that juvenile killer whales in captivity are known to generate negative pressures with their mouths.

    4. China volcano shows signs of unrest

Both prehistoric crocodiles, therefore, fed very similar to modern killer whales. These animals are not related, since killer whales are mammals. The researchers instead believe that the similarities exemplify what's known as convergent evolution.

"Convergence is the evolution of a similar body plan, feeding mechanism (or other characteristic or behavior) in two different and not closely related groups, in this case crocodiles and mammals," Young said.

NEWS: Ocean-Going Crocs Are Mean, Green Surfing Machines

"The continual evolution of these morphologies in distantly related groups could be telling us something about the limits and optimal method of underwater feeding in vertebrates," he added. "For example, the shearing, tooth-to-tooth occlusion of Dakosaurus is today found in false killer whales. But over the past 10 million years, numerous species of fossil sperm whales also evolved this feeding mechanism."

As for how the two different, yet equally formidable, crocodiles got along, there is no evidence that either species attacked the other. The scientists believe the Dinosaur-Era English seas had niche partitioning, whereby various predators fed on different animals, so the hunters never had to compete with one another for food. Today's ocean ecosystems are organized in much the same way, with animals such as whales, sharks and dolphins living in the same overall area.

Young and his colleagues would next like to delve deeper into understanding the feeding mechanics of the two crocs and other marine predators.

File Sharing Is Now Legal? In Portugal | WebProNews

Portugal has a piracy problem. The European country has been the focus of anti-piracy group ACAPOR for some time now. It all came to a head last year when the organization delivered over 2,000 IP addresses of alleged file sharers to the Attorney General?s office. The Attorney General?s office was silent for a year, but they have finally come to a decision.

The Department of Investigation and Penal Action has decided not to take action against the 2,000-plus IP addresses brought to their attention. Even better, the Attorney General ruled that file sharing for personal use isn?t against the law. Here?s the full statement provided courtesy of TorrentFreak:

?From a legal point of view, while taking into account that users are both uploaders and downloaders in these file-sharing networks, we see this conduct as lawful, even when it?s considered that the users continue to share once the download is finished.?

He went on to say that the right to education, culture and freedom of expression shouldn?t be restricted in cases of non-commercial copyright infringement. The very thought of such a statement being uttered out of a public policy maker is astounding as countries around the world continue to demonize file sharers as street peddler bootleggers or even worse.

In another encouraging note, the office also said that an IP address is not a person. Various courts around the world have also come to this conclusion. It?s been proven time and time again that IP addresses are not exactly foolproof when it comes to identifying a person. The RIAA knows this better than anyone else when they sued a dead woman based only on the IP address.

For their part, ACAPOR thinks the Attorney General?s office is just being lazy. The organization says that the ?prosecutors just found a way to adopt the law to their interest.? They claim that the Attorney General?s office just didn?t want to send 2,000 letters or hear 2,000 cases.

Either way, it shows that Portugal is once again being one of the most progressive nations on Earth. In 2000, the country decriminalized all personal drug use. The change in law led to a decrease in drug related violence and crime while leading to a decrease in recreational drug use among teenagers. The decriminalization of file sharing for personal use may just have similar effects, but only if content providers make it easy for Portugese citizens to access the content legally and easily.

LOS ANGELES (AP) ? Arnold Schwarzenegger says his wife, Maria Shriver, was criticized by her mother for trying to persuade him against running for California governor in 2003, a confrontation that ultimately opened the door to his successful candidacy.

Eunice Shriver told her daughter that her husband would be "angry for the rest of his life" if she stopped his ambitions, Schwarzenegger writes in his new autobiography, "Total Recall: My Unbelievably True Life Story."

The former governor says in the book that he had decided against running to recall Gov. Gray Davis after his wife implored him not to for the sake of their family. Maria Shriver announced his decision to their four children.

But he writes that when Maria Shriver told her mother about her efforts to thwart Schwarzenegger's political ambitions, Eunice told her daughter that women in their family "always support the men when they want to do something." Schwarzenegger says he didn't know about the conversation at the time, but learned of it later.

Maria Shriver then softened her stance, paving the way for Schwarzenegger to announce his candidacy on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," where he says he felt most comfortable.

The announcement came after a week of wavering. Schwarzenegger says before he headed to the TV appearance, his wife handed him two pieces of paper with talking points she had written: one in case he decided to run, another in case he decided not to.

"Total Recall" will officially be published next week. The Associated Press purchased an early copy.

The book is part of the former governor's attempt to rebrand himself after leaving office with a mixed record and subsequent embarrassing revelations about a fling he had with the family's housekeeper that produced a boy, Joseph, who is now about 14.

Schwarzenegger said he avoided telling his wife about the child for years, even when she asked him, partly because of his longtime penchant for secrecy, and his fear that the news would become public and undermine his political career.

The former GOP governor also writes about a 2003 White House meeting with Karl Rove in which the top GOP strategist told him the recall would not happen and instead introduced the actor to then-national security adviser Condoleezza Rice as his pick to run for California governor in 2006.

Schwarzenegger felt snubbed.

He asks, "How could Rove have been so wrong?"

Rove's office did not immediately respond to an emailed request seeking a response to Schwarzenegger's account.

Rice's chief of staff at Stanford University, Georgia Godfrey, said Rice cannot recall "any conversation on this subject."

"She has stated many times in the past that she has no desire to run for public office and those sentiments have still not changed," Godfrey said in a statement emailed to The Associated Press.

Ideal Ecommerce Web Design for Small Businesses | Find New ...

Article by Ydeveloper

Those among us who are new entrants to the world of ecommerce development and need to establish a presence online to reach Internet-wide audiences and generate online sales will find the following points regarding ecommerce web design useful.

To begin with, avoid the temptation to include lengthy descriptions about who you are. Provide information about what you can offer your prospective customers. Thus, your ?Clients? List? and the ?Portfolio? should be more carefully planned and prominent than, for example, the ?About Us? page. Customers don?t come looking online to find out who you are no matter who you are. They have certain needs and all they want is enough info to be able to fulfill those needs. This is the premise on which any business owner should base ecommerce development for his or her own site.

A simple website that loads fast and is easy on the eyes, easily navigable, is what you need to begin with ? an ideal ecommerce web designs solution. Flash animations are all very nice, but don?t overdo it or your page will not load fast enough. Make minimum use of scripts and heavy coding in ecommerce web design.

The content on your new website should be clear, concise, even wittybut interesting, one way or the other. Every word on the five pages or so of your website should be calculated to be read. And everything written should center around the customer, not you or even your business. Persuasive writing that understands the nerve of your target audience is what you require.

Creativity and simplicity are great virtues in both ecommerce development and ecommerce web design. They will prove highly effective in getting your point across and generating sales. This story is all about Ecommerce. We all know that how an online business is growing. The contribution of Ecommerce is larger than any other form of online business. The developing countries like USA and UK are the leading contributor and they have developed many technologies to make the online shopping as easier as it was not before.

Fed's Evans want to see monthly job gains of 200,000 for couple quarters

HAMMOND, Indiana (Reuters) - The Federal Reserve should keep on buying assets to lower borrowing costs until U.S. employers are routinely adding 200,000 or more jobs a month, for at least two quarters, a top Fed policy maker known for his dovish views said on Wednesday.

"I think that would be a good marker - it's a threshold, it's an indication," Chicago Fed President Charles Evans told reporters after a speech in this industrial Chicago suburb. "In combination with (GDP) growth above trend, that would really reinforce and solidify the idea that we are getting substantial improvement."

The U.S. central bank earlier this month launched a new round of quantitative easing, buying $40 billion of mortgage-backed securities each month and promising not to let up until labor market had improved substantially.

It also said it would keep short-term interest rates near zero until at least mid-2015, even after the economy is expected to show signs of strength.

The Fed did not define what it meant by a substantially better jobs market, although several top policymakers have since said they would look beyond just the unemployment rate, which now stands at 8.1 percent.

Evans said he would want to see "downward momentum" in the unemployment rate to below 8 percent. But if a stronger economy entices more people back to the job search, the unemployment rate could stay flat or even go up, he said. In that context, he said, even an unemployment rate of 7.5 percent or 7.75 percent would mark an improvement.

Evans, who rotates into a voting spot on the Fed's policy-setting panel next year, was a big supporter of the latest round of easing, and on Wednesday called for the Fed to do even more.

"This was the time to act," he told the Lakeshore Chamber of Commerce Business Expo. "With the problems we face and the potential dangers lying ahead, it is essential to do as much as we can now to bolster the resiliency and vibrancy of the economy."

Evans has long advocated keeping interest rates low until the unemployment rate falls to 7 percent, as long as inflation does not threaten to rise above 3 percent. On Wednesday he reiterated his view that providing such specific guideposts would boost the effectiveness of the Fed's efforts to jumpstart the economy.

To boost the impact of its actions, the Fed should explicitly say that it will be just as tolerant of inflation running slightly above its 2-percent goal as it is about inflation running slightly below, Evans said.

U.S. core inflation has run below 2 percent since 2008. Unemployment, at 8.1 percent, is well above the 5.5 percent to 6 percent that many economists believe is normal for the economy in the long run.

"We should not be resistant to policies that could move the unemployment rate closer its longer-run level, but run the risk of inflation running only a few tenths above our 2 percent goal," he said. "Such accommodative policies could further improve the employment picture, even beyond our recent highly beneficial actions."

On Wednesday Evans also reiterated his view that the Fed will need to expand its current round of bond-buying in the new year to include Treasuries.

Operation Twist, under which the Fed buys about $45 billion in long-term Treasuries and sells a like amount of short-term ones, will expire at the end of the year. Evans said he would support adding enough new bond-buying to make up the difference.

Obama: Disputed game means NFL needs regular refs

WASHINGTON (AP) ? The embarrassing NFL referee saga and the disputed call that gave the Seattle Seahawks a victory over the Green Bay Packers on Monday night has reached the campaign for the White House, with President Barack Obama deeming it "terrible" and declaring it was time to get regular officiating crews back on the job.

"I've been saying for months we've got to get our refs back," Obama said as he returned to the White House from an appearance before the United Nations. In a tweet that went out under his initials, Obama said: "NFL fans on both sides of the aisle hope the refs' lockout is settled soon."

In a rare moment of agreement with Obama, presidential rival Mitt Romney and GOP running mate Paul Ryan, a Wisconsin native, also said it was time to bring back the "real refs." The NFL locked out the officials in June after their contract expired. The league has been using replacement officials, who have come under increasing criticism over the way they handled some games.

"I sure would like to see some experienced referees, with NFL experience, come back on to the NFL playing fields," Romney said in an interview with CNN.

Ryan added a partisan note, using the referee imbroglio to make a case for kicking the president out of office.

"It reminds me of President Obama and the economy," Ryan said in Cincinnati. "If you can't get it right, it's time to get out. I half think that these refs work part-time for the Obama administration in the budget office. ... They're trying to pick the winners and losers, and they don't even do that very well."

Seattle won 14-12 over Green Bay after referees ruled a Seattle receiver caught the ball amid a pile of bodies in the end zone on the game's last play. The NFL conceded that a Seattle penalty in the course of the play went uncalled and cost the Packers the victory, but the league upheld the catch itself and the Seahawks' victory. Legions of football fans watched the play and the referees' call in disbelief, and buzzed about it all day Tuesday.

Typically, Obama, a diehard Chicago Bears enthusiast, is not one to wish the rival Green Bay Packers well.

But besides being an avid sports fan, Obama recently has redoubled efforts to win in the Packer's home state of Wisconsin. His campaign recently started airing ads in the state and Obama held a rally Saturday in Milwaukee, his first visit to the state since February.

White House spokesman Jay Carney told reporters aboard Air Force One that Obama watched the Monday night game and "thinks there was a real problem with that call."

"He said that what happened in that game is why both sides need to come together, resolve their differences so that the regular refs can get back on the field so we can start focusing on a game that so many of us love rather than debating whether or not a game was won or lost because of a bad call," Carney said.

Obama said in a phone interview Tuesday with The Des Moines Register that he doesn't blame the replacement refs.

"They've been put in a tough situation," the president said. "But the fact is this is a fast, tough game to control. And it doesn't make sense to me for a league that's been so successful not to want to put their very best out there."

Storm targets "baby boomers" | Bundaberg Crime | Robberies ...

COLLAPSED financial company Storm Financial targeted "baby boomers" at retirement age and used the lending power of Australian banks "motivated by profit", a court has heard.

Lawyer Allan Myers, acting for Australian Securities and Investments Commission, told the Federal Court in Brisbane how Storm Financial deliberately targeted "ordinary people" with little experience in the stock exchange and welcomed them into the "Storm family".

He said Storm founders Emmanuel and Julie Cassimatis described these people as an "untapped and unlimited market".

They told their clients it was more financially rewarding to invest in the share market than in real estate of cash deposits, urging them to double borrow against their assets.

The Cassimatises created an aura of success through photos of with the "rich and successful" such as James Packer and Bill Clinton, which were shown in court.

In his opening address, Mr Myers said Storm, Bank of Queensland and Macquarie Bank shared responsibility in these "ordinary investors" losing billions of dollars.

He said a year before Storm collapsed, the company had more than 3000 "Stormified" clients, was managing $5 billion worth of funds and had 14 offices along Australia's east coast.

"The Storm scheme caused loss to the many participants in it," he said.

"The banks, on the other hand, made large profits."

Mr Myers said ASIC sought to prove Storm was running a managed investment scheme which should have been registered under Australia's Corporations Act.?

He said ASIC also sought to prove the banks were "knowingly concerned" with the scheme and were "motivated by profit".

"ASIC seeks declarations that Macquarie Bank and Bank of Queensland were involved in Storm's contravention of the registration position in relation to the managed investment scheme," he said.

Mr Myers said Storm's business model involved generating fees through promoting their standardised leverage investment program to the public.
He said investors would pay a "substantial upfront payment of 7% of the capital investment".

"Once you're in the Storm system, all you have to do, having ticked the boxes, is sit back and relax and wait until you got richer," he said.

"We all know what the end is, it's tears. Because having leveraged yourself, you are exposed to market volatility.

"They were back to where they started after 40 years of hard work."

Mr Myers said he aimed to prove the banks "knew what was happening" and "knew the risks" but they "were in it in order to make profits".

He said they did not have to help Storm arrange home or margin loans at reduced interest rates with higher borrowing limits.

"A person generally not experienced in financial matters but who is comfortably off, in a home not mortgaged or mortgaged to a modest extent and perhaps having other assets such as superannuation, is put into the Storm system," he said.

"The sorts of people we are talking about are generally ... persons who have retired or are reaching retirement age, they've worked and saved and they have a few assets behind them to support them in the later years of their life.

"Storm encouraged these persons to mortgage the assets they have and arranged for those borrowings.

"Then, funds having been liberated as a result of those mortgages, Storm arranges their investment in index funds promoted by Storm.

"In turn the investment in those index funds is mortgaged again by margin loans to increase the borrowings, so it's a double borrowing.

"All of this was based upon a notion those who controlled Storm had, that property was not a safe investment, was likely to decline in value and you should be in a share market."

The trial continues.

A class action involving Storm victims tied up with the Commonwealth Bank has been adjourned and will be heard separately.

Tony Morris, acting for victims, said this was the most "inexpensive and efficient way" forward so victims could properly assess a Commonwealth Bank settlement. ?

Jon Jones, Cub Swanson and Vinny Magalhaes: UFC 152?s Three Stars

After waiting way too long for fights, UFC 152 delivered with mostly exciting bouts. There's no need to discuss Matt Hamill's bout with Roger Hollett. Instead, let's talk about the fighters who truly stood out on Saturday night in Toronto. Here are Cagewriter's three stars. Tell us yours in the comments, on Facebook or Twitter.

No. 1 star -- Jon Jones: The light heavyweight champion has barely faced adversity in fights, but Vitor Belfort gave it to him with an early armbar attempt. Jones got out of the submission, and then beat up Belfort for four rounds until an Americana submission ended the fight in the fourth round.

No. 2 star -- Cub Swanson: His knockout of Charles Oliveira was one of the weirder knockouts in recent memory. Oliveira was hurt by a body shot. Swanson then hit Oliveira with a left in the head, and Oliveira stood there for a second before falling to the ground. Slow motion knockouts are just as effective, and Swanson is now 3-0 in 2012. Every win was by knockout.

No. 3 star -- Vinny Magalhaes: It's been three years since Magalhaes was in the UFC. He reminded fans of his grappling prowess with a perfectly executed armbar of Igor Pokrajac. It was the exact move you would expect out of a jiu-jitsu world champ.

(AP) ? Apple Inc. said Monday that it sold more than 5 million units of the iPhone 5 in the three days since its launch, fewer than analysts had expected.

Apple shares fell $9.30, or 1.3 percent, to close at $690.79 on Monday. The shares hit an all-time high of $705.07 Friday as the phone went on sale in the U.S., Germany, France, Japan and five other countries.

The sales tally is a record for any phone, but it beats last year's iPhone 4S launch only by a small margin. Apple said then that it sold 4 million phones in the first three days.

Topeka Capital Markets analyst Brian White expected Apple to sell 6 million to 6.5 million iPhone 5s in the first three days. He said the shortfall was largely due to limited supply. White said the phone was sold out at 80 to 85 percent of the U.S. Apple stores he and his team contacted Sunday evening, and the ones that were still available were mostly Sprint models.

Online delivery times have stretched to three to four weeks.

The phone will go on sale in 22 more countries on Friday and in more than 100 countries by the end of the year.

CU Buffs' Embree at a loss after stunner against Washington State

An epic fourth-quarter collapse sealed the fate of Jon Embree's predecessor last fall. Now Colorado's new football coach has a late-game meltdown of his own to digest.

The Buffaloes managed to surrender a 10-point lead in the final 5 minutes, 4 seconds Saturday against Washington State and lost 31-27 at Folsom Field to a Cougars team that had won only one other time away from home under fourth-year coach Paul Wulff.

The loss left CU players and coaches devastated. It also left them with a 1-4 record and a road trip to No. 6 Stanford up next. In the moments after they self-destructed yet again, Embree had one question for his team.

"When is enough, enough?" Embree said. "You put in all this work. You do all the stuff that you've done from spring ball to coaches' week to training camp for this. This is what we did the work for. When is it enough? When are they going to get tired of losing?

"This staff, we've been here for five frickin' weeks and I'm tired of it. So if I've been here for five years, I got to be tired of it myself, too."

The game-winning play came with 1:10 remaining and the Buffs leading by three. Washington State quarterback Marshall Lobbestael found wide receiver Marquess Wilson behind the CU defense and completed the 63-yard touchdown pass stunning the Buffs and their fans on a picturesque afternoon beneath the Flatirons.

Cornerback Greg Henderson appeared to release Wilson who ran a route with a double move. Safety Anthony Perkins charged up and Wilson blew by both Buffs. Washington State had used the same play on the first drive of the game and CU safety Ray Polk made an interception. But it worked to perfection approximately

Colorado head coach Jon Embree had a difficult day during the Washington State game. ( CLIFF GRASSMICK )

three hours later.

If wisps of smoke emerged from Embree's ears in his postgame meeting with media, it wouldn't have been a surprise. He admitted he hasn't been able to change the mentality of the players he inherited.

"We can't make a play on either side of the ball," Embree said. "I don't know what it is. We practice these situations until we're blue in the face. Just for these situations. We failed to execute on both sides of the ball. No excuse."

It was the second time this season the Buffs failed to finish off a Pac-12 opponent in Boulder. CU lost in overtime to Cal three weeks ago in a non-conference game it should have won.

Colorado's final chance ended quickly. Quarterback Tyler Hansen threw across the middle to wide receiver Paul Richardson, who made the catch and fumbled for the first time in his career. Washington State recovered with 55 seconds remaining and ran out the clock in the victory formation.

Washington State's final two drives in the last 5 minutes covered 77 and 90 yards and accounted for 37 percent of its offensive production for the day. A CU defense featuring a patchwork secondary had fared well against the nation's fourth-ranked passing offense up to that point.

CU used Jason Espinoza and Brian Lockridge as cornerbacks in the game. Both made plays and held their own despite having been on offense as a wide receiver and tailback respectively until recent practices. Neither player was involved in the decisive play.

Lobbestael completed 32-of-49 passes for 376 yards and three touchdowns.

"When we win on the road and we're behind late, I think it says a lot about character, a lot about perseverance," Cougars head coach Paul Wulff said. "They've been working hard to get a road win. I think it says a lot."

The CU offense managed to keep the ball for only 40 seconds between the two WSU scores. The Buffs earned one first down and that came on a Cougars' penalty.

The loss spoiled a gritty performance from Colorado tailback Rodney Stewart who rushed for more than 100 yards for the 15th time in his career. Stewart finished the day with 278 all-purpose yards, 132 rushing, 34 receiving and 112 return yards. He also moved into second place on CU's career rushing chart passing Rashaan Salaam.

Stewart also scored the first rushing touchdown by a CU running back in 24 quarters of football, dating back to the Kansas State game in Boulder last fall. It was the last CU score of the day and gave the Buffs a 10-point lead.

CU players refused to say they relaxed believing they had won the game, but that appeared to be the case based on the ease with which WSU was suddenly moving the football late. Colorado players appeared more stunned in interviews afterward than in any game in recent years, including the 28-point fourth-quarter collapse at Kansas last season.

"I'm frustrated and disappointed," quarterback Tyler Hansen said. "We constantly find ways to lose the game."

Hansen's streak of 131 passes without an interception came to an end in the second quarter. He completed 15-of-23 passes for 175 yards and touchdown passes to Richardson and Toney Clemons. But he was rattled at times by the Washington State pass rush and was sacked three times.

When asked if the mentality of the program had changed from last season, Hansen said it has.

"Last year's guys would've gone through the motions, but this year we're still playing," he said. "We're going to get it. We've got to get it."

PFT: Forte won't play for Bears on Sunday

    Da'Norris Searcy, Kevin BossAP

We cover all of the biggest injury stories throughout the day on Friday, but feel free to use this as a one-stop shop to catch up on those posts and any other names worth mentioning that we?ll throw in here every Friday.

    Rams at Bears

The big story here is the running backs. Steven Jackson is questionable after missing practice all week because of a groin injury and Matt Forte will miss the game after spraining his ankle in the Bears? loss to the Packers. Rams defensive tackle Michael Brockers is out of his walking boot, but won?t play Sunday. Tackle Rodger Saffold is also out for St. Louis.

    Bills at Browns

The Browns will be without linebacker James-Michael Johnson and tight end Alex Smith, while kick returner Josh Cribbs is questionable. For Buffalo, safety Jairus Byrd and linebacker Nick Barnett are both expected to play despite missing practice all week.

    Buccaneers at Cowboys

The Cowboys ruled out defensive tackle Jay Ratliff for the third straight game. Defensive end Kenyon Coleman is also out and safety Gerald Sensabaugh isn?t likely to play because of a calf injury. The Buccaneers ruled out cornerback Anthony Gaitor, but are otherwise light on injuries.

    Jaguars at Colts

Colts wide receiver Austin Collie practiced all week, but his status is contingent on a meeting with doctors Saturday. Linebacker Pat Angerer and guard Joe Reitz are out while linebacker Dwight Freeney is questionable after missing Week Two with an ankle injury. Linebacker Daryl Smith, defensive end George Selvie and guard Eben Britton are all out for the Jaguars, while running back Rashad Jennings is doubtful with the knee injury that kept him out last week.

    Jets at Dolphins

Cornerback Darrelle Revis is probable, but Rex Ryan said the Jets are going to be without fullback John Conner and linebacker Bryan Thomas. Tight end Dustin Keller is questionable with a hamstring injury that forced him to miss the loss to the Steelers. Dolphins running back Daniel Thomas is probable after missing last week with a concussion while defensive lineman Tony McDaniel is out.

    49ers at Vikings

Wide receiver Ted Ginn and running back Brandon Jacobs are both questionable, just as they were before being held out of last week?s game with the Lions. Linebacker Erin Henderson won?t play for the Vikings due to a concussion.

    Chiefs at Saints

The Chiefs will be without tight end Kevin Boss and have several key players ? safety Kendrick Lewis, defensive tackle Anthony Toribio, guard Ryan Lilja and wide receiver Dexter McCluster among them ? listed as questionable. Saints wide receiver Marques Colston is questionable with a foot injury, although he?s expected to play unless he looks bad in pregame.

    Lions at Titans

Safety Louis Delmas is out again for the Lions, but cornerbacks Bill Bentley and Chris Houston are both probable to make their returns. Another corner, Jacob Lacey, is questionable and tight end Tony Scheffler is doubtful. The Titans will be without linebacker Colin McCarthy and running back Javon Ringer is questionable after missing the first two games.

    Bengals at Redskins

Redskins coach Mike Shanahan doesn?t expect WR Pierre Gar?on to play, but safety Brandon Meriweather could make his 2012 debut after being listed as questionable. Bengals cornerback Leon Hall missed practice the last two days and is questionable. Defensive end Carlos Dunlap and running back Bernard Scott should both be in the lineup for the first time in the regular season.

    Eagles at Cardinals

Cardinals quarterback John Skelton has returned to practice, but he?s questionable and not likely to see action. Tight end Todd Heap and safety Adrian Wilson are also questionable. The Eagles will play without wide receiver Jeremy Maclin and tackle King Dunlap.

    Falcons at Chargers

The Chargers should get running back Ryan Mathews and tight end Antonio Gates back after they both missed the win over the Titans. Cornerback Christopher Owens is out for the Falcons and linebacker Sean Weatherspoon is questionable.

    Texans at Broncos

Broncos guard Chris Kuper is the only player ruled out for either team. Several players are probable on both sides, which means that both teams should be at or right next to full strength come kickoff.

    Steelers at Raiders

Safety Troy Polamalu, running back Rashard Mendenhall and linebacker James Harrison are all out again for the Steelers. Tackle Mike Adams is questionable after missing practice all week. The Raiders ruled out tackle Khalif Barnes and cornerback Shawntae Spencer. Linebacker Rolando McClain is questionable as a result of a concussion.

    Patriots at Ravens

Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez has been ruled out after hurting his ankle a few plays into the loss to the Cardinals and figures to miss several more games. Defensive tackle Justin Francis will miss the game as well. Tackle Sebastian Vollmer, guard Logan Mankins and wide receiver Brandon Lloyd are among 10 Patriots listed as questionable for Sunday night. Tackle Jah Reid is doubtful while the rest of the Ravens appear healthy ahead of Sunday?s final matchup.
